LESSON 1 ADDITIONAL NOTES

Section A
The Beginning
Key Objective: To Understand the one true God of the Bible.

The Bible teaches that there is only one true God. This one true God holds us accountable to Him through the revelation of creation – Romans 1:18-20.
1 Corinthians 8:4-5
Though people may believe there are other gods, there is only one God.

Other Verses about the Trinity

This is the baptism of Christ. Here we notice Jesus in the water, the Spirit is coming down like a dove, and the Father is speaking from Heaven – three distinct persons.
Matthew 28:19-20
This is the Great Commission for every Christian. In it, we are taught to baptize in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost. There is only one name.
2nd Corinthians 13:14
This verse shows that the One True God is the three in one.

The First Man and Woman
Genesis 3:8-9
The first man is shown to be in perfect harmony and loving unity with God. God would walk with man in the cool of the day. Being in harmony with God, man was also in full harmony with his wife, with nature, and with himself. There was no sin in the first man and woman as they were originally made.
Genesis 3:17-19
The world is now abnormal. It is not as God made it. It has been cursed because of sin and everything under man’s dominion was affected.
God made man. Man’s body, soul and spirit were good. Man had a choice by which he could show his love for God by obedience. Man had a love relationship with God. He was in a perfect environment. Adam and Eve sinned. Since then, all people, including you and me, are born sinners and, thus, personally sin.
Hebrews 9:27
If you die a sinner, you will face the deserved judgment of God.

Section B
The Saviour
Key Objective: To understand how God made a way back to Him.
GRACE of GOD
Ephesians 2:8,9
Even though Adam and Eve were guilty and deserved judgment, God gave the promise of a Savior for mankind. We call this grace. Because we are sinners, we are blind to our sin and our need of a Savior.
James 2:10
If you tell one lie, you are guilty before God as a sinner. God is completely holy and no sinner can enter into His presence. You lie because you are born a liar - a sinner.

He, being sinless, came to die for all sinners.
More on Salvation
1 Timothy 2:5
Notice that this verse says that there is only one Mediator between God and men. A mediator is one who restores peace between two. The one mediator is Jesus Christ.
There are not several possible mediators. Jesus Christ is the only one because He is Holy and He is God. He is the only possible intercessor between the Father and men. He came to save you from your sins.
Jesus Christ was either who He said He was, or He was a liar. Jesus Christ could not be just a good teacher. He claimed to be God. He claimed to have the power to forgive sins. What do you believe?
Titus 3:5
Your religious works, your offerings, your church attendance, your baptism, or any other good deeds cannot change your sinful condition before God. No church and no religion can remove your sin. Only Jesus Christ can save you. Salvation is the gift of God.
Galatians 2:16
Salvation is never on the basis of any kind of good works. The word justified means to be declared right (righteous) before God. Salvation is by faith plus nothing! You can do nothing to cleanse yourself from sin. (Isaiah 64:6)
Romans 4:25
Jesus Christ died and rose again to give you new life.
Romans 5:8
A Holy God displayed His love for you by dying for your vile, filthy sins.
SALVATION – How do you receive this gift?
The Bible’s answer is that salvation is obtained by faith in Christ plus nothing.
John 1:12
If you receive God’s Son, the Jesus of the Bible, as your Savior, then on the basis of Christ’s finished work (His death, burial, and resurrection) as the only payment for your sin (which you trust by faith alone), God promises that He will:
1. Transfer you from Satan’s Kingdom to God’s Kingdom
2. Transfer you from the family of Adam to the family of God
3. Transfer you from serving sin to serving God
4. Transfer you from eternal death to eternal life in Heaven
2 Corinthians 6:2
Today is the day of decision. You cannot escape if you ignore this message of salvation. Adam, and everyone after him, have all sinned. Therefore, we have each earned spiritual, physical, and eternal punishment.
Now God in His love has given you an opportunity to be saved from your sins and Hell (2 Peter 3:9). You can do nothing to earn salvation. It has nothing to do with your works. You cannot purchase it at a department store (1 Peter 1:18,19). It is all by grace alone. If you refuse God’s gracious gift, you stay where you are, under the condemnation of God, headed straight for Hell. If you died right now, where would you go?
What happens once I am saved?
God becomes your Father; you become His child. (1 John 3:2)
Since we are in the family, God will deal with us as a son, not a sinner.
You can do nothing to break this relationship. God will not disown His children. Sometimes your fellowship may be strained, but the relationship remains the same.
Our Father will never do anything to purposely hurt us. (Matthew 7:11)
We will be protected. (Matthew 18:6)
We will be cared for. (Philippians 4:19)
We will be corrected and taught the correct way. (Hebrews 12:5-11).
